Lean Body Coaching Newsletter | Issue #97 | March 19th 2013

Have you ever enjoyed the experience of making great gains in the gym? If so, you know the feeling... you're having great workouts... your strength is increasing... your body is changing.  You're unstoppable!  This goes on for a while. Then... you hit the wall. It's as if someone flipped a switch and all of the gains come to a grinding halt. You've experienced the bane of every bodybuilder... the dreaded "plateau."

In this week's Lean Body Coaching newsletter, we'll be examining the common myth that plateaus are an inevitable part of workout programs.

A plateau, put simply,  is when you're no longer progressing in your workout.  For most bodybuilders, recognizing they've hit a plateau is evidenced by their inability to gain additional muscle and strength.

This week, international best-selling author, natural bodybuilder and certified trainer Hugo Rivera, shows you how to incorporate periodization into your workout to help you avoid plateaus.

Periodization is the process of cycling different aspects of your workout. This includes, but is not limited to, the weight you use on a set of any given exercise, the reps per set, the amount of rest between sets and overall workout volume.

Hugo shares how to group these factors into phases that are cycled to allow your body to keep progressing. The three phases, namely,  loading, active recovery and the growth phase,  progressively force your body to adapt and  grow.

You'll also get a full sample periodization program to follow, along with Hugo's personal supplement and diet program.

I have a sweet tooth as I'm sure many of us do. The problem with a sweet tooth is that it doesn't care if we are trying to lean out or pack on a few pounds.

Instead of working against the body to force our will on it, here are a couple of sweet and tasty protein smoothies that won't hurt your waistline.

These smoothies pack a protein punch, minimal fat but with all the flavor of those belt-busting desserts.

Until next time,  stay healthy and strong. Get lean, live lean!

Yours for a Lean Body,
