Green Coffee Bean Extract, is it a miracle pill? No, not by any means, but just like a host of other popular supplements it does have positive benefits when used correctly with a solid nutrition and exercise plan .
Green coffee beans are simply coffee beans that simply have not yet been roasted. It is very similar to the comparison of green tea and black tea. Both teas come from the same plant, but are processed differently creating the color difference. When you roast a coffee bean, which causes the darkening effect, you reduce amount of chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid, as we will discuss, is part of what delivers the benefit of coffee beans. These unroasted coffee beans also contain strong antioxidants called polyphenols.
So what does the combination of chlorogenic acid and polyphenols offer you? Below are a few of the studies that show they may be helpful to our physique altering goals.
Shimoda H, Seki E and Aitani M. studied the inhibitory effect of green coffee bean extract on fat accumulation in mice. They found that 0.5% and 1% Green Coffee Bean Extract decreased visceral fat content. The results proposed that the green coffee bean extract is possibly effective in preventing fat accumulation through inhibition of fat absorption and activation of fat metabolism in the liver. 
One of the most important regulators of not only body fat, but muscle growth as well, is insulin sensitivity. As your body becomes more insulin resistant, it requires larger amounts of insulin to complete the same role in the storage of nutrients. The larger insulin release, when the muscle cells are not as sensitive, results in less uptake of muscle glycogen and more uptake into the fat cell. Wang et al.  investigated the effects of chlorogenic acid on skeletal muscle GLUT4 expression and blood glucose in rats. It was found that chlorogenic acid exerted effects on improving blood glucose as well as increasing insulin sensitivity.
Another researcher, McCarty found similar actions from chlorogenic acid. His study wents as far as to say that at a dose of 5mg/kg of body weight, chlorogenic acid is an insulin sensitizer that potentiates insulin action similar to the therapeutic action of metformin .
I am very basic and simple in all of my personal supplementation. I will say that I do personally think that improving insulin sensitivity is one of the best things you can do for your physique. If you are an individual that has issues controlling body fat when consuming carbs, I think it would be wise to set yourself up with an insulin sensitivity protocol. Aside from concentrating nutrient timing, including products such as green coffee bean, ALA, and others may provide some additional benefit.
