WINTER “BLUES” TO WINTER “WOOHOOS”!

The excitement of the holidays are officially over, so now there is nothing to look forward to until the first signs of Spring…ummmmm, says who?!? Not Y-O-U!! LABRADA fans, do not get stuck in January’s “icy” grips and instead, put a warm and glowing smile on those wonderful lips!

With the winter months upon us, something to be aware of is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD (the abbreviation is ironic, huh?), is a form of depression that occurs most frequently during the winter months. Its symptoms include hopelessness, increased appetite/weight gain (and not due to the holiday “splurging”!), increased sleep, less energy and ability to concentrate, loss of interest in work/activities, unhappiness and irritability. If you feel that during this time of the year, you experience these feelings, understand that you are NOT ALONE! While you may not be able to control that this happens, the question is WHAT you are going to do about it ands HOW you are going to BRIGHTEN your mood? SAD is a real condition, but it is NO EXCUSE to stay “under the weather”! I am going to “shed some light” on ways that you can find your “inner SUNSHINE”!

Make sure that you are getting ENOUGH SLEEP!
*If you find that you are CRANKY and “hard to PLEASE”, it may just because you are not getting enough ZZZZZ’s!
*Get your work done during the day and plan your workouts accordingly so that you are able to fall asleep at a reasonable hour!

CLEAN UP YOUR DIET!
*Make sure that you are getting the proper nutrition and vitamins with your diet!
*Nourish your MIND and BODY with the HEALTHY ENERGY that it needs to function PROPERLY!

EXERCISE!
*Make sure to STAY ACTIVE (even if you feel tired and lazy)! Push yourself to get in a good workout and I promise that it will do wonders for your mood!
*Your body will release “FEEL-GOOD” endorphins to get you feeling much BETTER!

DO ACTIVITIES THAT YOU LOVE AND ENJOY!
*Just because baby, it’s cold outside, does not mean that you are inhibited from doing what you love!
*Do you love swimming? Find an indoor pool! Love gardening? Well, plants and flowers grow INSIDE, too, ya know! 🙂 Do you miss being outdoors? Learn to SKI! (and then reward yourself with a nice cup of hot chocolate for all of the calories that you burned!) 🙂
*The key is to not give in to feeling depressed ~ It may seem difficult, but you CAN “lift” your mood HIGHER!

Remember, LABRADA fans, it is okay that you happen to feel “BLUE”, but getting yourself to be HAPPY is up to Y-O-U! Escape Jack Frost’s “bitter” spell and make these first months of the year super SWELL! Turn the so-called “Winter Blues” into wonderful Winter “Woohoooos”! Never allow yourself to be “cold weather” recluses…NO EXCUSES!
