WBW – “Prayer: Your Steering Wheel or Spare Tire?”

WBW – “Prayer: Your Steering Wheel or Spare Tire?”

by LCF

I was driving to the store this week with my sister and as a passenger, I was able to pay much more attention to all of the things that normally “whiz” by when concentrating on the road in the driver’s seat. We were pointing out our favorite Halloween decorations when we passed by a small church, with a bulletin board out front.

On the bulletin board was such a powerful and thought-provoking question that I knew right there why I wasn’t the one driving this time… “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”

“Seven days without prayer makes one weak.” –Allen Vartlett-

Do you just rely on God when you are wishing for something, or do you allow your faith to guide you? While it can be easy and perhaps automatic to pray to God in times of “want”, the reality is that if we allowed our faith to guide our actions, we wouldn’t find ourselves in so many times of “need”. Take the time each and every day, as many times as possible, for prayers of gratitude for all of the amazing blessings that have already been bestowed upon you. Remember that prayers are never one-way dialogues. Open your heart and your mind and LISTEN for God’s direction, for He will be sure to guide you if you allow Him to…

“Prayer requires more of the heart than the tongue.” –Adam Clarke-

If we truly put all of our faith in God that He will lead us down whatever path is best for us, as only He knows, it makes it easier to relax. I am not saying to take no action, for nothing is accomplished without making moves toward your goals. However, allow these moves to be “inspired actions”. You will know in your heart when you are being “Divinely steered” because this motivation and impulse will grab hold of you and not let go, no matter how many times you try to step on the break or turn the wheel in a different direction. Stop worrying about trying to control everything yourself down to the very last detail, and allow your prayer and faith in God to be your cruise control. Keeping in mind that He knows better than you what will make you the happiest, allow God to fasten your seat belt…. it’s up to Y-O-U to step on the pedal. You will surely achieve whatever God has in store for you if you allow Him to write your road map…

“You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.”

–Mary Manin Morrissey-
