2The Lean Body Challenge…it’s that time of year again. The time to make a commitment to yourself, and the time to re-invent your body is upon us once again. It’s not an easy challenge, but it is a rewarding one. This is your chance to either become the person that you have always wanted to be, or to recapture the body you once had. Here at Labrada Nutrition, they give you all the tools, encouragement, and support you need to achieve success, but keep in mind that it ALL starts with YOU! You must be dedicated and willing to put your best foot forward. There will be some ups and downs during your journey, but I’m letting you know from experience that it can be accomplished. I understand everyone who enters wants to win the grand prize and win their division, but honestly; everyone who participates in the challenge is a winner. Getting in the best shape of your life, is the most rewarding gift you can give yourself and loved ones. Better health, more energy, increased motivation, and self satisfaction are just a few of the other perks that will come with the completion of this challenge. Just finishing this challenge makes you a champion. It’s all about “From here on out,” and time to leave your “Former” self behind. It’s time to reap the benefits that you have worked and fought so hard for.

My Lean Body Challenge sure wasn’t easy. Being a husband, a father of one with one on the way, long work hours at the hospital, a new nutritional plan, and finding time to work out sure was overwhelming! Just like many of us, I didn’t know where to begin and how to attack this monster that I have just created. I had to sit down and map out how I would juggle everything in my life. How do I become the man I want to be, and still be a good husband and parent at the same time? You just do it! Set your mind to it, and attack it head on. I decided to plan my workouts early in the morning on my days off, and after work on work days. That way my wife and daughter wouldn’t have to take a back seat to my workouts. This worked for me because I could still be helpful around the house and be there for my family. I decided to prep and cook all of my meals on the weekend. This would make it easier during the course of the week to eliminate the time it took to prepare dinners. This took a lot of temptation out of the equation. I never had to worry about picking up fast food because I always had my meals ready for me. Anytime I needed to eat, all I had to do was turn to my packed cooler and pull out a prepared meal. It was a mental challenge whenever my pregnant wife had cravings, but I had to stick to the plan, and had to keep focusing on the overall goal.

I worked hard. I definitely had my tough days. I tried to surround myself with a positive support group to help keep me motivated week in and week out. Having a group of people who you can count on for encouragement was a HUGE blessing. I had plenty of friends and co-workers constantly telling me that I could take a day off from the diet, and that one day off wasn’t going to kill me. I tried to distance myself from them until the challenge was over. Sometimes you have to make tough sacrifices, and I knew that if I wasn’t going to get their support, then I needed to distance myself from them for awhile. Now, I’m not telling you to go and ruin friendships with family and friends, but express how important this challenge is to you, and that having their support would help you out tremendously. I put my heart and soul into MY challenge, and I had come way too far to throw it all away. One word of wisdom if I may; when you prepare your essay, speak from the heart. There are so many people out there that have the same obstacles to conquer as you do, and it always helps to know that they are not alone. It helps when people see that others have the same problems and issues to deal with. We need to help each other out, and let the spirit of health and fitness spread like wild fire. We are the support group to many people out there. Some just need a little help and guidance. They need to be shown the light, and be pushed in the right direction. Be that beacon of light for them, become a positive role model for others.

I was chosen as the 2011 Lean Body Challenge Grand Champion. It totally blew me away. All of my hard work had paid off. I received my phone call from Mr. Labrada, and couldn’t believe that I had won the whole challenge. I was on cloud nine for the rest of the evening. To think that this was happening to me just seemed unreal. I was ready to go to Houston to meet and train with Mr. Labrada himself. A once in a lifetime opportunity for me. To meet and train with someone that I looked up to during all my years of lifting. This man had helped me achieve the impossible dream for myself; to be in the best shape of my life, and be recognized for it. Mr. Labrada and his entire crew at Labrada Nutrition were just fantastic. They helped in every aspect of the challenge. Whenever I had a question or concern about the challenge, you could turn to them for a quick and informative response.

I would like to thank first and foremost, Mr. Labrada for giving me the opportunity to participate in the Lean Body Challenge and help unlock my best physique ever! I was in the best shape of my life, and knew that I would be able to share this with my family and be that positive role model for them. The entire Labrada Nutrition crew that I kept in touch with (Martin Shepeard, Deanna Tew, Ryan Workman, and Anthony Douglas) were always there for me whenever needed. All of these people made our entire trip to Houston outstanding. You really are family when it comes to Labrada Nutrition. Everything this company stands for is “Top Notch” and they really go above and beyond to help their clients out. Good Luck to all of the Lean Body Challenge competitors this year. Bring your “A” game and never give up. Greatness for you is right around the corner. No matter what happens with the results of the challenge, you are all winners! It’s not always about winning or losing. It’s about proving to yourself that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. The gift of a healthy life is reward enough. Trust me; working at a hospital, I see much tragedy every day. Strive, Commit, and Win! Good Luck to you all! Until next time…
