Consistency Wins Every Time

Consistency is one of the most over looked attributes of successful people and the easiest to acquire. Not long ago Lou and Carla Ferrigno showed up at one of the seminars that I was doing for the Yagers’ Amway group in Los Angeles. At the end of my talk, I asked if Lou would come on stage and share some of his secrets to success. What he said was simple but powerful. He said, “Consistency and discipline are the key.” I know Lou and he is one of the most consistent people I know in every area of his life, which is why he can have it all: an incredible wife and family, thriving career and business interest, one of the best bodybuilders ever to walk on this earth, and, on a personal note, a good and trusted friend.
Consistency works on all fronts. Want to get in shape? Plan your workouts, meals and supplementation and you will get in shape. Want to succeed in business? Find out the traits you need to succeed and apply them daily and you will succeed. Want to write a book? Consistency is what works here too. Many authors would panic if they got the accelerated deadline that was attached to the contract for The Power Of Positive Fitness, but the advice I got from Barbara Corcoran really helped. She told me to schedule how much I would need to get done each day and stick to it. Well for this book, 90,000 words divided by eight weeks is 11,250 words a week. If I work six days a week, that is 1,875 words a day. At 1,875 words a day I was half finished by the time we signed the contract because it took thirty days to go through the process. Once we signed, we still had sixty days, but I stuck to my schedule so I would be done thirty days early. I wanted to still have thirty days for editing, review, and final changes. I made a plane and stuck to it—it’s as simple as that. It wasn’t easy but it was simple.
